There's More Happiness in Giving Than There is in Receiving. . . (Acts 20:35)
Is that really true? Have you ever experienced that?
It is for me and I'll tell you why.
There's nothing more rewarding than sharing a gift with someone you care about.
Have you ever watched a child’s eyes light up opening a gift?
Have you ever witnessed someone read a handpicked card or note you shared with them?
Have you ever cooked for a sick loved one or someone less fortunate?
Have you ever paid it forward?
Oh yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. Pulling at those heart strings.
~ I can’t describe the feeling in one word. It’s the elated feeling of knowing that you’ve done the RIGHT thing.
I have had individuals in my life who shared wisdom, love, time, energy, money, hugs, food, clothes, encouragement, gifts, and the list goes on.
Being on the receiving end, that felt wonderful – especially when I was a kid. Now that I’m all grown up – not really, I’m still a kid at heart!
I’m on the giving end. I LOVE giving to those I truly care about, spend time with family and in the ministry helping the deaf and hard of hearing community, give hugs to the sweetest granddaughter, and attempt to give my best when writing for my readers.
Truth is, the reward is still amazing, even when you share it with strangers. Have you ever given a donation “just because?” Same thought.
You don’t need a reason to be kind.
I recently lost my beloved Stepmother (in my name only). Gladys, was the epitome of Giving.
My very first memory of her, I was three years old, sitting at the kitchen table in her apartment in Yonkers, NY.
“Are you hungry?” She asked
“Yes,” I replied.
“Would you like a sandwich?”
“Yes.”
She made me a sandwich with a glass of milk and a hostess
I remember thinking, “I like this place, they have the good snacks!”
That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship and blessing. My beloved Gladys continued to be the bright spot in my life~ giving to her family, her community and me.
It’s funny how comfortable you feel letting your hair down and being vulnerable with some, while others while around others you guard and protect your actions and ACT” okay, all for fear that others might see the real you or think you are Vulnerable. That was my beloved. With arms open wide, she accepted all and loved hard.
I’d like to believe some of that rubbed off on me. As I said at the outset, I love giving. I love people, and I love making people smile.
Is there someone you can ‘reach out and touch’ today? What are you waiting for?
What’s my saying? Give your roses today, you never know when that may be your last chance.
Giving brings a special kind of joy. Wanna know how to experience that truly special feeling from giving? Share with those who have nothing to offer or those who can't return the favor. That’s when you will really experience really giving.
Charay’s mother Sheila had a giving spirit. Charay learned to be giving. The Brown Eyes of Avon sheds light on why a giving spirit is necessary, and how it fosters a loving family environment.
What’s in your emotional giving bank?
